Anyways, I've been wanting to invest in face beauty products for some time, particularly tinted moisturizers or foundation. However, I'm a bit more iffy about purchasing a full face foundation as I'm looking for something light and moisturizing. I would like full coverage but I know it's kind of near impossible when I'm looking for something that's light. Haha I know, I know. I conflict with myself. But I want to invest more in the tinted moisturizer because I'm not exactly into wearing heavy foundations for everyday especially during school. Just something light for everyday but something that covers my redness around my cheeks and chin, due to "scarring" from the rashes outbreak (I put the parenthesis around scarring because they're not exactly scars but ever since my outbreak from rashes they have a tendency to be more red now, which sucks).
So basically what I'm looking for in a tinted moisturizer or foundation is something that is light and isn't harsh on sensitive skin (I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin). My skin is really delicate as I have been using doctor prescribed creams for my eczema and rashes. I try to ween myself off of them but when I do and I use a wrong product my face flares up in angry rashes. And not only that but I'm also allergic to dairy and gluten products; I found out about this allergic thing last year I believe :( and it sucks because I have been eating bread, pasta, cheese, milk, yogurt, etc. etc. for the past 16 years of my life. Trying to dramatically change my diet completely is definitely proven difficult and there will be occasional times where I'll eat bread or a cupcake or cup of yogurt and instantly regret it as I would break out in angry rashes, depending on the amount I ate and whether or not I use the anti-inflammatory cream (I try to use a small amount as possible. I only use the tiniest dot...like the size of an organic chia seed lol lame reference). Lastly, my skin tends to lean on the dry side but as the day goes on I notice that my face tends to get a bit oily, so I would assume that my skin type is sensitive, dry, and oily. Or combination...I'm not exactly sure. Haha, my skin type is weird.
So for reference, I have used 3 bb creams and one foundation so far. And sadly, all of them broke me out and were terrible for my sensitive skin.
The bb creams/foundation I had used were (products listed in chronological time):
Missha M Shiny BB cream- This was my very first makeup product that I ever got and it was during all the bb cream craze that was happening. Sadly, it was extremely disappointing. This one was downright awful and broke me out terribly. I had the most awful breakouts ever and had these huge pimples all over. Not only that but it left the most obvious grey cast on me and "shininess" added to the artificial look. The sparkles in the bb cream looked so fake that whenever I walked around my face literally sparkled in the least attractive sense. This bb cream was awful. Didn't even use it halfway and had it sitting in my vanity drawer in the back before I got rid of it lol I think I only use it like....a week? or two weeks? Haha looking back on it, I have no idea how I used it for that long. I think it was all the bb cream hype that made me want to hang on to it, also considering that it was first and only makeup product ever so it made me feel "grown up" (?) lol I don't know. I got this product two years ago.
Missha M Perfect Cover BB cream- Another disappointing product. It seemed to work a bit better than the previous bb cream but not until it gave me eczema and terrible skin allergic reactions. It left a somewhat grey cast on me but I got the medium shade. I can't exactly remember the name of the shade since I threw it out and also got this bb cream around two years (or a bit less) ago. I first used this as a full face foundation and the coverage was really good. Covered everything. However, it tended to look cakey and pasty, given the thick formula and consistency of the cream. So I stopped using this for my full face and instead just used this as a "concealer" for my angry red pimples still recovering from the shiny bb cream. It made my angry pimples even worse and the bad news, it gave me worse new ones. My skin was cracking and puss was oozing out from it. Pure disgusting-ness lol sorry the detailed post. So obviously, I stopped using this.
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Pressed Powder- This was the one product that really made me stop using their products completely. I've never been a huge fan of Neutrogena products but this powder really made me dislike their name altogether. I've used their sunscreen and skincare before and I stopped using those as well because they always gave me negative results. Not only that, but their products always tended to leave me feeling heavy, like I had something on my face and it just felt gross in general. All the stuff they claimed to be didn't even live up to those in the least bit. Anyways I used this product during spring of last year and even used it for my sophomore prom. I regret not being more studious into makeup because I was such a noob and had no idea what to do. But now that I've acquired so much more knowledge about skin (and so much more to learn about), I hope my junior prom makeup will be a better experience lol Anyways! this product looked cakey and just didn't look "healthy" in general. It also broke me out really badly as well. Haha, Spring of 2012 was an awful time for my face.
THEFACESHOP FACEit Aqua Tinted BB cream in Natural Beige- This was one of my most recent face makeup purchases as I got this around my junior homecoming (October 2012). I got a sample of this during that time and being the only face makeup I currently owned I decided to use it for my homecoming makeup. I was in a hurry and considering that my homecoming was in the dark I couldn't really tell whether it looked good on my skin or not (that is, cakey, smooth, or whatever). However, application of it seemed to glide on pretty smoothly and had that soothing feel to it. But I only wore it for a few hours and when I got home I was too tired to even pay attention to my face but I washed off all my makeup diligently. The next day after the homecoming dance, I didn't break out but I noticed tiny, tiny red bumps along the area between the eyebrows and along the jaw line. I didn't think much of it at the time as it recovered pretty quickly. Then, on one of my visits to THEFACESHOP, I purchased the full size of this bb cream on impulse and I tried it out again. This was around January of this year, however I don't have pictures because I didn't think I would start a blog haha I'll try to start taking more pictures though now that I'm running a blog. Anyways, I used it during a college visit and in the beginning it felt ok. Though I noticed that when I applied it on, the consistency of the cream seemed different from when I remembered before when I tried the sample. It seemed more thicker and was difficult to apply to my dry skin. It also tended to cling to my dry patches of my face and looked slightly unflattering. Didn't look very natural up close. Also, at the end of the day, after I washed everything off, my skin kind of burned. I looked in the mirror and sure enough, my face turned out pretty red and my face felt really uncomfortable and just stung. I was really disappointed because I really wanted this to work for me :( oh well. So I returned it. End of story haha Conclusion? I've kind of given upon bb creams ;~;
So after doing some recent and extensive research here are some products I've been wanting to try,
Covergirl Smoothers BB Cream/Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15- I'm looking more for a tinted moisturizer than a bb cream because I think bb creams are doing more damage and benefit for my face. As much as I want a bb cream, I don't think bb creams (a majority, not all) are suitable for my skin type, because I tend to break out from them easily. And not only that, but with further research into bb creams, their ingredient content is really harmful. However, it's much loved by people in general so I'm not going to say anything to stop them from using bb creams. I just wish I could use them too :( Anyways, I've never been a fan of Covergirl products as they just seem sketchy. However, I'm not being really fair because I've never used them before to give them my honest opinion about them but reading reviews about their various products don't seem too good. This one product seems to giving good reviews though. One thing that sucks is that Covergirl recently repackaged this tinted moisturizer and renamed it bb cream, just wanting to jump on the bb cream craze, but it's exactly the same ingredient list as their tinted moisturizer from before. Sneaky marketing on their part and something I don't like but I'm sort of glad it's not a bb cream because it doesn't contain all those harmful chemicals and it seems fairly light and safe for sensitive skin so I'll be hoping to pick this one up sometime soon.
Flower Beauty About Face Foundation or their BB Cream and Loose Powder- Since this is a relatively new brand, there are several reviews and I'm quite keen to try it out. However, since this leaning toward a more natural concept, it is a bit more pricier than other drugstore foundations, so hopefully if I do choose to invest in this, it'll be worth my money.
For now, these are the only ones I've really been wanting to try. I have looked at other ones (a lot actually haha) and after some really thorough researching on each individual product (like their ingredients lists and etc.) I've narrowed it down to these four. Hopefully, when I do get a chance I'll be able to invest in them and do a review and hopefully, I won't break from them like all the other foundations/bb creams I've tried thus far.
Here is the youtube video which influenced me largely into investing in tinted moisturizers and of course her video tutorial is really great.
AhraMablog:
For quick reference, I also watched Clothesencounters, Liah Yoo and Hover's Jelly and etc. I'll do a separate post on video tutorials later.
Thanks for reading everyone! :)
