and those of you who are new here, I'm actually just starting to get into makeup.
Well, I've actually always been interested in makeup itself but never did anything about it, meaning I didn't own one single article of makeup, whether it be mascara, lip balms, nail polishes, nada.
However, as I started to venture further into the Korean culture and looked beyond than just the surface of the Hallyu Wave, dramas, pop music, variety shows, etc. what really struck me about them the most was and is their flawless skin. I was so envious of them. At the time, way back a couple of years, I could care less about skin care and had several breakouts due to not taking care of myself. However, as of recently, I really looked up to a lot of the Korean actresses, singers, etc. I wanted to try and maintain healthy skin like they did. In general, I wanted to look beautiful (haha >.<;;).
Back then, I would just use whatever on my skin and did the basic cleanse-tone (I even sometimes skipped this step!)-moisturize. However, Koreans take diligent care in their routine and have an extensive skincare line of products they use on their face everyday. In fact, it seems like they invest more money on their skincare products than they do on their makeup, which I found interesting. So I started to research what was good for the skin, how to treat it whenever I broke out, what was safe, the Korean skincare routine, etc. Soon I was starting to take better care of my face and skin in general.
On a side note, I have extremely sensitive skin and have known eczema breakouts on my face if I use something wrong on my face, thus making it extremely hard for me to know if I'm getting my money's worth on a product so to say. My skin is also a mix of everything, meaning it's combination oily and dry. Ugh. My skin is probably the most difficult to deal with haha. Though I have to say that ever since I started my own skincare routine, featuring THEFACESHOP's products, my skin have been a lot less prone to breakouts and my skin is more manageable However, that isn't to say that I don't break out at all, especially during that time of the month, and have flawless porcelain skin 24/7. I wish. I'm just saying that Korean skincare products, or maintaining a skincare routine that works best for you can help in having nice skin in the long run.
Anyways, so I began researching around for good skincare products suitable for my skin type, which is difficult -_-. Also, I wanted to really try Korean products, as I was always reading such good reviews about them in general. But considering that I live in the United States, I thought it would be impossible. But thank God that there was a Korean cosmetics/skincare store near my area! OH THANK YOU GOD. I was about to give up hope and use American brands. But I tend to stray away from American skincare products as they are way too harsh on my delicate skin and instead of treating breakouts, I find that they tend to aggravate them more and make my skin worse. They also have harmful and irritating ingredients in their products, making me stay away from them even more. Some people have had luck with them, and good for them. It just doesn't suit my skin type. Some popular brands here in America are Aveeno (their skincare products were alright), Clean and Clear (wayyyyy too harsh on my skin), Neutrogena (THIS MADE MY SKIN AWFUL D: made my eczema even worse -_-)
THEFACESHOP's logo thing. Seems really appealing haha ^^ |
So the only Korean store around my area that was/is selling Korean skincare and cosmetics (no duh.) was called THEFACESHOP. I've read several reviews on their products and they seemed alright. Not the top notch best, as I've read some negative reviews, but definitely something worth your money, considering some of the products. Sooo, luckily for me, they have a branch near my local K-town :D
I've been shopping there and getting my skincare/makeup/etc. products there for about 3 or 4 years now (?) and I really love it. Their sales assistants are really nice and they're really helpful as well. I feel bad about going to their store though because I'm there so often that I feel like I'm bothering them. ;~; haha and not only that, but their skincare products are really good. Not all of them work for my extremely sensitive skin though, but that's ok because I found some other products from there that really helped my skin! So overall, I'm really pleased that I found this store.
Also, considering that this is the only Korean skincare/cosmetics store around my area, most of my reviews will be from this brand. None of them are sponsored though, as I bought everything there with my own money (which is bad for my wallet; I always end up nearly broke there because everything there is so cute and the prices there aren't exactly budget friendly to students like me ㅠㅠ kind of on the pricier range of things). So no worries about biased reviews! Haha everything will be 100% honest and thoroughly my opinion.
Anyways, that's it for today's blog post I guess :) Look forward for my next one! (hopefully...if I have the time lol)
